Altona Salutes Local Honor Guard Members

Students participating in our Washington D.C. class saluted local veterans today.  Veterans from Longmont’s Honor Guard met with these students in small groups to answer questions and share stories from their time serving in the U.S. Military.

Following these small round table conversations, the members were escorted into our Rattler Den to a standing ovation from our students and staff.

Our 8th grade choir sang the Star Spangled Banner. 8th grade student, Emily Stewart, gave a wonderful speech about the DC program and how these students raised $1500 throughout the year to send two veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Our Pops Orchestra performaned “You Raise Me Up,” by Josh Groban.  8th graders, Gabby Ardila and Victoria Isuani, also spoke and handed out awards at the assembly.  The event was concluded with the playing of Taps by bugle.  Video Footage.
