St Vrain Valley School District students head to National Flag Football Championships to represent Colorado and the Denver Broncos.
Fans of the NFL are used to seeing some pretty big names at Pro Bowl, the league's annual All-Star game, held in Orlando, Florida at the end of January. Names like Rodgers, Brady, Gurley and Miller. Now local SVVSD names will join them like Burke, Whitted, Lowrie, Muncy, Brewington, Whitted, Long, Helme, Medlock and Neeld.
On Tuesday, November 27th a local flag group from We Sport U football made it to the Broncos Invitational Tournament, held in the Pat Bowlen Training Field at Dove Valley. The We Sport U Eagles along with 6 other tournament teams (a 7th team had to drop at the last minute) met up with the prize being a trip to Orlando with the chance to represent Colorado and the Denver Broncos in the NFL Flag National Championships at the Pro Bowl. The WSU Eagles, led by Coaches Tim Test and John Whitted, were able to make it past the first two rounds against some of the best flag teams in state. In the third and final round the Eagles faced off against an extremely talented Broncos team out of Colorado Springs. The Broncos would strike first and fast leading to a 24-14 lead over the Longmont team. A second half resurgence by the Eagles led to a 39-24 win and the tournament victory!
Test, who took the first flag team to the 40 team tournament in 2016, says he is proud of the heart and determination of this team. We are incredibly honored to once again represent our school district, our hometown, our state and of course our beloved Denver Broncos.
The newly minted We Sport U Broncos will be participating in the NFL Flag Football Championships at the Pro Bowl in Orlando in January 27th, 2019.
