Source to Sea Costa Rica

There were seventeen students, four from Altona, that accompanied Mr. LaCrosse, Ms. Campbell, and Mr. O'toole (district science coordinator) to Costa Rica in June on a science learning expedition to Costa Rica.  The focus of this trip was to study the ecosystems in the rainforest at the University of Georgia near the Monteverde Cloud rainforerest and all the way down through the dry forest ending up at the estuaries, intertidal zones and open ocean on the Pacific side near Guancaste Province.

Origami, card tricks, slime...MATH?

What do origami, card tricks, and slime all have in common? For the Math Circle students at Altona Middle School, the answer is mathematics, of course!

For the last five years, Linda Goertz, 8th grade math teacher at Altona, has attended the Rocky Mountain Math Teachers’ Circle sponsored by the University of Colorado- Denver. Math Teachers’ Circle is a group of middle school educators and mathematicians that meet to solve and discuss unique and interesting math problems.

AMS Math Information

Current Altona students recently brought home their math recommendations for next year, along with a packet of information as to how and why students are being recommended for their math courses for next year.  The math department here at AMS wanted to make sure that all parents were aware of the options for math courses for next year (for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students) and ensure that parents had access to the guides for what students need to be able to do at each grade level, as outlined in the Colorado Model Content Standards for Mathematics.
